Consider This

When Buying a Piano

Part 3 - The Service Department

One area many customers do not consider when making a piano purchase is:  can the dealer I am purchasing my piano from provide the service I need and honor any warranties should that become necessary?  Most of us would not even consider purchasing an automobile from a showroom that wasn’t backed by an excellent service department, and there should be no difference when it comes to a piano.  There are thousands of moving parts inside a piano, and just one that is not working properly will mean a key or keys that do not play or sound right.

Did you know that there is no organization that licenses piano technicians?  There is a guild dedicated to improving the trade, but anyone can get cards printed up, hang a sign out front and the general public will not know better.  Take some time to look into the history of the person you are going to trust hundreds or thousands of your hard earned dollars with.  Ask to see current projects and ask for references.  Does the store rely on outside help?  If so, you are paying more for it.  The store with technicians on hand will be the one best able to service your instrument from both time and economic standpoints.

From the time the piano is received to the time it is delivered to the customer, Ragland Piano Company performs all service work to the piano.  No part of any restoration, refinishing or reconditioning is subcontracted – everything is done in our on site service facility.

Interested in seeing the reconditioning process?  I’ve posted a tutorial, complete with numerous photos on the Ragland Piano Company webpage at:  http://www.raglandpiano.com/recondition.htm.
