Ragland Piano Company is owned and operated by me - Howard Gustafson. I am a second-generation piano technician with over 25 years experience with all types of pianos, including player pianos.  My career started as a preteen helping my father with minor tasks in his shop, followed a few years later by a decade associated with one of the largest music stores in the Memphis, TN area.  I relocated to Texarkana, TX in 1996 and a year later opened Ragland Piano Company in its present location at 314 Main Street.  I have three boys, the oldest of whom has started assisting me in the shop after school - the third generation to work in the piano business.  This is what I have done professionally all my adult life.

Kranich & Bach
5' Baby Grand Piano
Light Mahogany Cabinet, Serial #62426

Very good playing piano, awesome genuine ivory keytops (photo below), all brass polished, nice cabinet.  Interior cleaned & serviced.  Tuned to A440.

November 2013 UPDATE:  We've decided to restring the piano.  It looks great, plays great - if there is a weak link it's the appearance of the strings and sound of the section of bass strings that were originally steel wound (as opposed to copper wound).  This work is tentatively scheduled to be completed Jan 2014 unless someone places a deposit on the work (possible to have done by Dec 25th).

We are also planning to accent the cabinet edges with a darker lacquer (see example).  If you like the cabinet and prefer it like it is, now is the time to discuss this!

Many sellers on the internet are only offering their pianos "as-is" or "condition unknown" or, my favorite, "just needs tuning" (very unlikely unless it is new or newly restored/reconditioned).  The truth is, most people don't fully realize the mechanical nature of a piano.  Just because it makes a sound when a key is pressed does not mean it works properly.  This piano has been reconditioned in our own service facility- click here to see a photo tutorial (shows a Yamaha studio but the principles involved are similar) that shows the reconditioning process.  All keys play (and play properly, there IS a difference), the pedals work, and it has been tuned to standard pitch - A440.

Make the smart choice and choose a piano that has been professionally reconditioned by an experienced, reputable dealer or technician (even if it's not me!)  Take time, do some research, buy from a reputable source and avoid some of the pitfalls that often come from buying the wrong piano from the wrong source.

please remember this.............

DO NOT JUDGE A PIANO ON LOOKS ALONE!  PIANOS WILL STILL MAKE A SOUND WHEN YOU PRESS A KEY EVEN WHEN MAJOR REPAIRS ARE NEEDED!  IF YOU ARE PURCHASING FROM SOMEONE OTHER THAN A QUALIFIED DEALER OR TECHNICIAN, HAVE IT INSPECTED BY A TECH!
