Ragland Piano Company is owned and operated by me - Howard Gustafson. I am a second-generation piano technician with over 25 years experience with all types of pianos, including player pianos.  My career started as a preteen helping my father with minor tasks in his shop, followed a few years later by a decade associated with one of the largest music stores in the Memphis, TN area.  I relocated to Texarkana, TX in 1996 and a year later opened Ragland Piano Company in its present location at 314 Main Street.  I have three boys, the oldest of whom has started assisting me in the shop after school - the third generation to work in the piano business.

Professionally converted to a modern digital piano

Example of the digital conversion we do.  In this case, we took an old, "birdcage action" Broadwood piano with a gorgeous cabinet and gave it new life.  The original (and inferior when compared to modern day pianos) action, plate, keys, strings were removed.  New digital components were installed - in this case, from a Kurzweil Mark Pro1i.  We chose the Pro1 for this project because the voices and various functions are chosen by pressing a small control panel button (see photo above) and piano key - eliminating an unsightly control panel running the length of the keyboard.  This allows us to preserve the antique look of the piano while returning it to modern day functionality.
